# Set up Knowledge

This page creates the help center. It does not write articles. When the center exists, follow [Populate the knowledge base](https://www.saasco.com/docs/knowledge/agents.md).

## 1. Use the Saasco MCP

If Saasco is not connected, read https://www.saasco.com/docs/mcp.mdx and follow the steps for this client. Sign in, allowing "Create and change data in your projects". Search with `saasco_search_tools`, then run the tool with `saasco_execute_tool`.

Pass project id `YOUR-PROJECT-ID` on every knowledge tool. On a connection scoped with `?projectId=`, omit `projectId`. Live and test are different projects. Write to the id you were given.

## 2. One help center

Call `knowledge_getHelpCenter` with `YOUR-PROJECT-ID`. If it returns null, call `knowledge_createHelpCenter` with `displayName` set to the product name. Do not create a second help center.

## 3. Public site and domain

The public site is on when a collection has a published public article. Publishing that article is what makes the help center live. A draft or an internal article stays off the site.

Ask before a custom domain. Call `knowledge_setHelpCenterDomain`. The records to add come back on the help center as `customDomainVerificationDNS`. Each row has `domain`, `type`, and `value`. Follow [Add DNS records](https://www.saasco.com/docs/domains/dns.md) for their host, wait until they say the records are saved, then call `knowledge_verifyHelpCenterDomain` once. If it is still pending, say so and stop.

Then follow [Populate the knowledge base](https://www.saasco.com/docs/knowledge/agents.md). Do not write the articles on this page.
